10 Things You Should Know About Me
I remember when I was at school I used to think that my teachers lived their whole lives in the confinements of the classrooms surrounded with the endless piles of our copybooks. I could never have imagined that they might actually have a life. Now I myself am a teacher. And sometimes I find myself in a situation when the kids say: "No, you can't POSSIBLY know what it's like to relax. You must be spending all your time learning English and thinking of the new tests for us". Well, do I?
So, that's how this post came to be written. I want my kids to know that I'm a PERSON, which is a much broader notion than a TEACHER (or is it?), and in-between writing some new tricky tests I do have a life.
Here are 10 things you should know about me.
1. I always write my name as Iuliia because that is how it is written in my passport, and I guess that our Ministry of Foreign Affairs knows best. Besides, it has only one consonant letter in it, which is not a very common thing:)
2. I started tutoring kids when I was in the 11th grade (courtesy of my English teacher at the time). I think that is what eventually formed the vocational path I pursue now.
3. I am a huge fan of Harry Potter. I mean, literally, I know all the spells:) But on a more serious note, I think there is more to this series than just spells and some magical creatures and if you read between the lines you may come across some very important messages.
4. I am quite good at embroidering. That is the skill I was taught by my granny, and I have already embroidered my very first "rushnyk".
5. I'm crazy about biathlon. I watch every race and I'm an avid supporter of the national Ukrainian team. I also have autograph cards of some of our prominent sportsmen and women.
6. I'm a cat lover. I had my first pet cat when I was only 4 years old and since then I can't imagine my life without these creatures. My cat's name is Stasia and she's my antidepressant because when I feel low I just need to pick her up and hug her tightly (not sure if she likes it very much, though) and my mood lifts immediately.
7. My favourite book character is Elizabeth Bennet, mostly because I can relate to her. She tends to be headstrong and judgemental, but on the bright side she is witty and loves a good joke.
8. I can make super delicious brownie. That's our family treat and what makes it even more delicious is that it's English:)
9. I can speak German. And I was in Germany as an Au-Pair Mädchen 4 years ago, which was a very meaningful experience for me.
10. I love travelling. I've already been to Germany, France, Spain and Georgia. Next summer I'm planning to visit my friend in Israel.
